In a world of 3D polygon-modeled sports sims it's nice to see the occasional state of the art sprite-based baseball title. The emphasis here however is on action with a control system that uses golf game-style meters to determine pitches and swings. Best of all the game contains user-selectable difficulty for pitching and hitting on both teams.

Grand slam 97 isn't much on features like graphics. But it is a fun and simple game which is nice change from the glitzy Nintendo and Playstation games big on graphics and cinimatic hype. It is a unique game that is my favorite sports game and has been since it came out in 1997. Virgin should do a Grand Slam 2002.
